John is a Fellow of the Irish Photographic Federation, a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and has a Masters from the International Federation of Photographic Art. His work has been exhibited throughout Ireland, the U.K. mainland Europe and the USA. He has had the opportunity to lecture extensively over the last number of years and has had several photographic lecture tours in the U.K.
Over the years John has self published three books. The first two, 'Gathering Light on the Dingle Coast' and 'Dingle, My Only Place' both contain landscape images from the Dingle Peninsula. His third book 'Ireland The Way We Were' takes a look at old abandoned houses that he has found mainly around the West Kerry area and offers the reader an opportunity to see how people lived in years gone by.
Together with his wife Noreen John also runs photographic weekends from his base in Ballyferriter, West Kerry. While Noreen looks after the B & B side of things John brings participants to numerous locations throughout the peninsula over the course of a weekend and also gives an extensive insight into his own work.
In the past John worked mainly with slide film and transitioned to digital about 10 years ago. He used a Nikon D3 camera and does all of his own printing.
John is passionate about the landscape and preserving it for future generations. He loves nothing more than spending a few hours on location waiting for that perfect image and sharing his images through his lectures and using social media.
